enough to save us
Nothing stands in the way, his love is strong enough to lead us
This is a new "Christmas" song with a familiar "Christmas"word. Emmanuel. People know this word to mean "God with Us." But I thought that the lyrics of the song took a fresh approach to help people understand the significance of why God would say that Jesus would be called Emmanuel. I think that most people around Christmas file the meaning of Emmanuel as a Christmas factoid but fail to recognize the significance of why God gave this name.
ReplyDeleteThe nation of Israel at the time of Jesus birth were a disgruntled, defeated and subdued group of people. They were faced with the promise of God that if they obeyed Him that they would be able to remain in their land and have Sovereignty over their nation. At the same time aall of their attempts to beat back the occupying Romans had failed and it would seem that either they weren't holy enough for God to deliver them or that they had been abandoned by the God of their fathers.
I think that today the people of God face the same challenges when it comes to confronting the challenges of life and the promises of God. Jesus tells us in John 14 that He has given those who place their trust in Him peace. A peace that goes beyond the type of peace the world can offer. Jesus tells us "do not be afraid."
The phrase "do not be afraid" is one of the most common sayings of God throughout the scriptures. This phrase appears over 365 times in the scriptures. And over and over again an accompanying reminder from God about why we should not be afraid is because God is with us. "Emmanuel."
This song paints such a beautiful picture of why it is that the people of God do not need to be afraid. The lyrics of the song remind us that not only is God with Us but that we can walk confidently through life with the peace of God because the One who is with us is greater and mightier than anything we might face. That through whatever experience we go through we have the Mighty Counselor, Great Physician, Redeemer and Prince of Peace walking through life with us. In the midst of the storms of life Jesus is our Peace. Emmanuel.
